“In the universe, there are things that are known, and things that are unknown, and in between them there are doors.”  William Blake

Friends,

We have come to a threshold time, you and I, on the edge of something new. We’re in what is known as a liminal space. With big changes on the horizon, we’re beginning to let go of the old while waiting for the new to arrive. You await the arrival of your new settled minister and I await a new phase of life in retirement. Transitions, by nature, come with a certain amount of uncertainty, moving from the known into the unknown. It’s like opening the door into mystery. What comes next is yet to be fully revealed.

Spiritual teachers claim there is transformative power in liminal spaces; those in-between places, neither here nor there, where the past and the future meet, points of departure where change is inevitable. The power is in the choice of what from the past to leave behind and what to carry forward, a choice of how you will meet the future. A liminal space is a place of becoming.

In this time of becoming, what from the past will you be leaving behind? What will you carry forward?

I’m excited for the future – yours and mine. Until then, I will relish the in-between.

Yours in shared ministry,

Rev. Diane
