If you were asked to reimagine the National Anthem to better reflect our country’s diversity and complex history, what might that song be? At the Sunday, November 1st Worship Service (10 AM), our FUUN Choir will premiere a choral arrangement of a song that was created through such an effort. WE ARE AMERICA is the focus of the 2023 documentary film, ANTHEM, which follows accomplished musical artists Kris Bowers and DJ Dahi on a musical journey across the US, as they seek perspectives and input on what such a song should be. They visited with local musicians in Tulsa, Oklahoma (for an indigenous people’s perspective), Clarksdale, Mississippi (the birthplace of the blues), New Orleans (the home of jazz), Detroit (the home of Motown music), Oakland, California (the birthplace of hip-hop), and Nashville (the home of country music). From this effort, the song WE ARE AMERICA was co-written in collaboration with Kris Bowers, DJ Dahi, Joy Harjo, Ruby Amanfu, La Doña, and Charity Bowden. The version to be sung at FUUN was arranged by David W. Haas.
