FUUN Weekly Programming for Children and Youth

Director of Lifespan Religious Education

July 17, 2022

Dear All:

Our Whole Lives (OWL) is coming back!

As we begin to catch up, which means leaving no age group out, the 2022-2023 programs will be for 2nd-3rd, 6th-7th, and 9th-10th grades*. If you have a child in one of these grades, don’t miss this opportunity – especially as laws and concerns around reproductive rights have become so challenging. The two younger groups will take place during Winter/Spring, and more information will be available in the Fall. But 9th-10th grade OWL is coming up fast!

In order for a child to participate in the 9th-10th grade program, all custodial parents/guardians must attend the parent orientation that is scheduled for Sunday, August 14, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Capek Room (Morgan House). So whether you are interested in knowing more so that you can make a decision, or you already know that you want your child to participate, please contact Caleb Hampton, Religious Education Administrator, at REAdmin@firstuunash.org no later than August 5. This will be first come, first served, with priority to members, and a wait list if we exceed 12 children.

 * The age groups for 2023-2024 will be 1st-2nd, 5th-6th, and 8th-9th grades. For 2024-2025, they will be K-1st, 4th-5th, and 7th-8th grades, at which point we will have caught up.

Please be in touch. If you haven’t yet, or if you haven’t in a while, please come see us. We miss you.

Blessings,

Marguerite Mills                                                Caleb Hampton

Summer Programming

Summer programming will include:

·       The Learning Table during worship services.

·      Children’s Fellowship 30 minutes of supervised play, 11-11:30 a.m., either on the playground or in Morgan House, depending on the weather.

·       Special events and activities for all ages. Watch this email for details.

Please know that all of this is subject to change at any time and depends entirely on the availability of volunteers—see Volunteer Roles for more information.

The Learning Table (most Sundays)

The Learning Table is available in the back of the sanctuary during the worship service. This is an opportunity for children to learn how to be in the service. Older children and youth are more than welcome to help, Adults will be present to talk about what’s happening in the service and sing hymns together. Limited activities that are related to Unitarian Universalism and that day’s worship service will be available to supplement the experience. This will be available most Sundays—depending on the availability of volunteers, and not on Sundays that are multigenerational, such as Flower Communion and Water Communion.

Children’s Fellowship (dependent on volunteer availability)

It is important to maintain connections—with each other and with Unitarian Universalism—through the summer. To that end, Children’s Fellowship provides 30 minutes of supervised play after the worship service. And while our children use this time to maintain those connections, their parents and guardians can have time in the social hall to shore up their connections with other adults. We encourage older children and youth who would like to help to come and mentor younger children. All are welcome!

Please know that all of this is subject to change at any time and depends entirely on the availability of volunteers—see Volunteer Roles for more information.

Volunteer Roles

We have begun to list the role descriptions for the many volunteers needed to make programming for children and youth happen. Please see the Faith Development Volunteer Roles page for PreK-8th grade roles, which are our single greatest need right now. Descriptions for other roles and other areas will come soon. And don’t limit yourself—if you have a gift to bring to the table, we want to hear about it, and if you don’t know what your gift is (whether with children or youth, or elsewhere), let us help!
