“What we call the beginning is often the end

And to make and end is to make a beginning.

The end is where we start from.” T.S. Eliot

Friends,

Endings and beginnings depend on each other and they define each other. Day ends so night can begin. Spring ends so summer can begin. In like fashion, one ministry ends so another can begin.

Yes, I’ve come to the end of my time with you. It has been an honor to serve as your minister for the past five years. It is with fondness that I remember all the traditional ministerial roles I have filled in this time, everything from a Preacher sharing a good word, to a Prophet proclaiming truth and calling for justice, to a Pastor companioning people through the ups and downs of life, to a Priest presiding over rites, rituals, and ceremonies, to a Teacher passing on our Unitarian Universalist faith tradition.

In my 24 years of ordained ministry, I have learned that congregations and ministers define each other. I have come to believe that great congregations make great ministers. I know I became a better minister during my time with you, and for this, I will always be grateful. You are truly a great congregation with many gifts to offer each other and the world.

This coming Sunday will be my last with you. Be sure to read the announcement following this message for important information about the service.

If endings and beginnings define each other, it is important to end as you wish to begin. I am ending in love and gratitude. These I will carry with me as I begin a new chapter in my life. I’m confident that you will carry your greatness as a congregation forward, granting Rev. Charlotte Arsenault the same grace and trust you offered me.

As I end this ministry at FUUN, so that a new one can begin, I will honor the practice of staying away from the congregation and not engaging with its members for 2 years, unless invited by Rev. Charlotte and church leaders. I leave knowing you are in strong and capable hands. I am excited for your future!

With deep and abiding love,

Rev. Diane
